A HISTORY of Skipton’s drinking water supply which most people take for granted is the subject of a talk and walk organised through the Friends of the Dales.
Retired chartered water engineer and member Jim Crossley has published his research into the ‘quest for potable water for Skipton’s growing needs’.
He charts the progress of this quest from the early 18th century to the present day.
After a morning walk to explore some of the town’s hidden historic water supply/recreational features in the Shortbank area of the town, Mr Crossley will present an afternoon illustrated talk with photographs.
Book signings and purchases will be available.
The walk and talk takes place on Saturday, November 16.
It leaves St Andrew’s Church Hall, in Newmarket Street, at 10.30am.
It involves a gentle but steady uphill and downhill walk to the sites.
The talk starts at 2.15pm at the Church Hall and will be followed by tea and biscuits.
