THIS picture from Skipton’s ‘Mr Sport’ Roger Ingham, evokes a pleasant reminder of the times when seven-a-side tournaments provided a grand finale to the rugby union season.
Pictured in 1958 by Clifford Boothman at the Winnington Park Sevens, which attracted some of the top teams in the north - is the Skipton Sevens team.
The players are, back row, left to right: David Brown - who also played for Yorkshire around that time - Teddy Cooper, Neville Nelson - whose family then ran the Hart’s Head Inn, and now the Maple Leaf photography shop, and Peter Whitaker.
Front row: Clive Snowden, John Whitaker (captain), a former England Schools international and presently chairman of Whitaker Chocolates, Tony Brumfitt and Malcolm Garbutt, touch judge.
