FOLLOWING the outstanding success of the Under 17 Girls team in winning the North of England cross-country title in 1997, Skipton’s ‘golden oldies’ emulated that splendid achievement a year later when this resolute quartet won Skipton the North of England Veterans track and field title.

The Championship embraced six meetings across the north and covered the full range of events comprising jumps, throws, sprints, hurdles and distance races up to 5,000 metres. A truly exhausting programme at all six meetings and while all the principal contenders possessed far bigger squads, Roger Ingham said they just had a ‘gang of four’.
