A TENANT of Skipton’s homeless hostel is likely to be evicted after he got angry and caused £1,000 damage to his flat, heard magistrates.

Staff at Pinder House in Keighley Road called the police on October 23 after hearing loud bangs coming from Simon Haughey’s self-contained flat and after he had shouted at them that he had ‘got no tobacco or weed’.

Haughey, 36, was arrested and swung a punch at one of the officers, although it missed and the officer was uninjured, the court was told on Friday. A search of his flat revealed damage to doors and to bathroom fittings which would cost an estimated £1,000 to fix.

Haughey, who admitted criminal damage and resisting an officer in the course of his duty, had been on a court order at the time imposed in January this year for a similar offence., the court heard.

In mitigation, Siobhan White, said Haughey was highly dependent on cannabis, spending £200 per week on the drug. He was now likely to be evicted from the Horton Housing property and planned to move back in with his parents

Magistrates revoked Haughey’s previous court order and re-sentenced him to a new 12 month community order with a six month, non residential drugs treatment programme, and up to 15 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

He will also have to pay compensation of £500 to Horton Housing, costs of £85 and a surcharge of £90.
