ORGANISERS of next year’s Skipton Triathlon are delighted after 150 people signed up to take part within a week of entries opening.

Since taking over running of the spring event in 2017, Craven District Council has seen more than 700 athletes take part every year.

And, with so many people taking advantage of the early bird offer, with reduced prices, it is hoping the 2020 event, due to take place in April, will attract more people than ever.

The biggest pool based triathlon in the country, the event attracts both experienced and first time triathletes, with competitors carrying out a 400 metre swim in Craven Leisure pool, a 22 km bike ride to West Marton and Thornton-in-Craven, and a 5km run through Aireville Park.

After this year’s event raised £4,500 for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, the council is partnering with the charity again for the 2020 event.

Sharon Hudson, the council’s communications, customer services and partnerships manager, said: “This is a brilliant event and we’re delighted that we’re partnering with Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice again.

“We always get fantastic feedback from people who have taken part – the event attracts a huge range of competitors, from complete beginners to elite athletes.

“We’re really grateful to our generous sponsors, and amazing supporters and volunteers who help us stage this event and make it such a great experience for all those who take part.”

Jonathan Mashiter, of Omnis Design, one of the event sponsors, along with CP Media, said: “Its a great event for the community and so we were keen to offer our support again.”
