A SKIPTON furniture and furnishings shop has re-opened after flash flooding caused more than £50,000 damage.

The Home Company at High Corn Mill was left under two feet of water and closed for more than two weeks following the flooding, which happened at night towards the end of October.

Following a clean up, and complete re-decoration, the shop has now re-opened, with staff ready to welcome back customers.

Andrew Mear, owner of High Corn Mill, said: “I was called out to the mill by concerned neighbours at 10pm, but it was too late - the showroom was already under water. A lot of stock was ruined and damage to the store building itself was extensive,” he said.

“Thankfully Peter Howlett from the Frame Shop managed to clear the drains and prevent even more damage, for which we are very grateful.”

With help from other businesses, the five strong team at The Home Company has cleaned up and got everything back up and running.

Linda Lee, shop manager, said: “We’re very grateful for the support of the community and their understanding and patience while the store was closed. Everyone pulled together to clean up and sort the store and we’re pleased to announce that the shop is now open for business. We hope to see all our loyal customers - and new faces too - very soon.”
