YORKSHIRE Water celebrated its first ‘carbon week’ by planting 1,500 trees at its reservoir at Embsay.

More than 50 volunteers spent two days planting trees at the reservoir, helping to contribute to the company’s commitment of planting a million trees.

Geoff Lomas, lead countryside and wildlife advisor at Yorkshire Water said: “It’s great to see tree planting at more and more of our reservoirs to help Yorkshire Water celebrate its first ever carbon week and support our one million trees commitment.

“As ever, a big thanks goes out to The Woodland Trust who provided the trees and tree protection and are the lead on the Northern Forest initiative as well as being a key partner for us in the one million trees programme.”

Yorkshire Water aims to plant one million trees by 2028. The trees, including birch, hazel, cherry, pear and oak, planted at Embsay will enhance the land and deliver a range of benefits that will reduce carbon, support wildlife and help create a resilient and diverse habitat.
