SIR - May I express my thanks and appreciation to everyone who took part in the Remembrance Day Parade and Service at Skipton this year.

I have represented the Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire at Skipton on Remembrance Sunday for some 10 years and during that time the attendance, the organisation and Skipton’s genuine affection and appreciation for all that this special day represents has grown year on year.

Special mention for the faultless organisation and support of The Royal British Legion volunteers and the contribution of the service men and women, the veterans, the cadets and all those who marched or laid wreaths, the Skipton Town Band, the Skipton Council support team, backed up by Craven District Council, the emergency services, the clergy and all those who supported the service at Holy Trinity but most of all to everyone who turned out to line the High Street. Every year the marching contingent and the watching crowds grow in number. It is especially good to see so many young people either taking part or watching.

I always send a report to the Lord-Lieutenant who takes the keenest interest, but this year was so special I decided that nothing less than a personal thank you through the good offices of the Craven Herald would suffice, very well done one and all.
