EMBSAY pre-school children held a sponsored read to encourage a love of books both in the classroom at at home.

Organised jointly with Karen Jones from Karen’s Bookberries, organiser for Usborne books, the event raised money to buy new books for the school.

In addition to the £332 raised by pupils, Usborne donated 30 per cent of the total raised in extra free books to the school, taking it to £432.

Judith Robinson, manager of Embsay Pre School said; "The children and their families enjoyed the opportunity to share more story books for the sponsored read and we were so shocked that we had grand total of £432 to spend on Usborne books. The children chose a wide variety of books including lots of factual books for both our preschool children and our Explorers Out of School Club.”

Karen Jones, from Karen’s Bookberries said ‘We want to support schools and nurseries improve literacy and create a lifelong love of reading by giving them free books. There is absolutely no catch. I would encourage education establishments, from early years right up to school leavers at 18 years, to get in touch with me to see how I can help them transform their library with no cost to them.”
