THE drivers of four off-road vehicles were stopped earlier today (Thursday) as they made their way back down from Gordale, Malham, along a green lane meant for horses and walkers only.
Police at Settle were alerted by Rob Ashford, Malham area ranger for the Yorkshire Dales National Park and together they went towards Weets Top where they found the vehicles on the bridleway. All four drivers were stopped and have been reported for motoring offences.
PC Harry Carpenter, of Settle Police, said: "Both the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and ourselves welcome responsible use of the rights of way within the national park but we will not tolerate inconsiderate and inappropriate use and will take positive action against offenders especially when damage is caused, as in this instance, to maintained paths."
