Also from ‘Mr Sport’ is this line-up of Grassington United football players who were crowned Craven League champions for the season 1962-62.
He remarks how it was something of a rarity in that all except one player either lived or worked, or both, in Upper Wharfedale.
The victorious players are named: back row, from the left - George Whyte, manager; Doug Padgett, Michael Steel, Mich Darwin - a former Yorkshire School’s boxing champion - Donald Whyte, John Longstaff and David Baxter.
Front row, from the left - ‘Nipper’ Cowling, Ken Longstaff, Gordon Kent (the only offcumden ) and son Barry kneeling in the foreground, Norman Beck - a prominent fell-runner of the era, and Henry Daggett.
