The Dick Binns Trophy, awarded annually at Skipton Auction Mart’s high profile annual Christmas prime cattle show in memory of the late well-known Saltaire family butcher, was this year presented by his sister Kathy Gemmell and her husband Robert.

The trophy went to a class-winning British Blue-cross heifer from the Critchely beef farming family in Hutton, near Preston, later selling for £1,755 to Countrystyle Meats Farm Shop & Restaurant in Lancaster

Mr Binns, who was a regular buyer of top-notch prime cattle and lambs at Skipton, champions and multiple prize winners among them, passed away in 2017 after a long illness.

The long established Bingley Road butchers remains in the family and is now being run by his son Paul, who trades as Paul Binns Quality Meats. The shop is a member of the national Q Guild of butchers. The Q stands for quality.
