BLUE remained the colour in neighbouring Pendle and Ribble Valley which covers part of the West Craven district, and both with a healthy majority.

Nigel Evans, who has held the Ribble Valley seat since 1992, returned with a majority of 18,439, polling 33,346 votes.

He said: “At last, if this is right , we can finally restore trust in politics and Parliament and give them the Brexit they voted for over three years ago.

Soon after the results were announced he tweeted:”Great results. Well done to all the new Con gains who will deliver Brexit for Britain.”

The full results are:

Giles Bridge, Labour,14,907.

Nigel Evans, Conservative, 33,346.

Tony Johnson, Independent, 551.

Chantelle Seddon, Liberal Democrats, 4,776.

Paul Yates, Green Party, 170.

Andrew Stephenson, who held Pendle comfortably turning it from a marginal with a majority of 1,279 to a seat with a 6,186 cushion, summed it up neatly.

He said: “I’m looking forward to getting on the train in Preston on Monday not just with my ministerial colleague Jake Berry from Rossendale and Darwen and my Ribble Valley MP friend Nigel Evans but with the new Tory MPs for Hyndburn and Burnley.

“I shall be delighted that we shall all be travelling down to London together.”

After the election he tweeted: “Thank you, Pendle.”

The full results for Pendle are:

Azhar Ali, Labour, 17,890.

Clare Hales, Green Party, 678.

Gordon Lishman, Liberal Democrat, 1,548.

John Richardson, Independent, 268.

Andrew Stephenson, Conservative, 24,076.

In Westmorland and Lonsdale, the rosette remained orange as the Liberal Democrats held on to the seat with Tim Farron re-elected with an increased majority.

Mr Farron, who increased his majority from 777 (2017) to 1,934, said: “On a night where some results may go for us and some against us - it’s very clear that the Conservatives have won a huge majority – that for us to win here against that backdrop is not very much short of a miracle, but it is a miracle that has been engineered by a team of volunteers, hundreds of them right across our community, working every village and every town, listening to people and working on their behalf.”

The results for Westmorland and Lonsdale are:

Tim Farron, Liberal Democrats, 25,795.

James Airey, Conservative, 23,861.

Phillip Black, Labour, 2,293.

Steven Bolton, Brexit Party, 763.
