WORSHIPPERS at Cartmel Priory have celebrated the end of the second successful Advent Festival which attracted 4,000 visitors over nine days.
This year people, organisations and businesses were invited to submit stained glass designs for “Window on the World” exhibits.
Forty imaginative and artistic window subjects varied from traditional Christmas and seasonal scenes, through local features and attractions, to contemporary topics about society and the environment.
Visitors to the festival were able to vote for their favourite exhibits, and the results were announced at the reception on the final day. The best junior entrant was Allithwaite CE Primary School with Acorn Montissori as runners
up. Best individual entry went to Monica Burke with Sam Boothman as runner up. Best business was Perfect English with Holker Hall and Gardens as runner up. Best community group and overall winner was Newton and Field
Broughton WI’s craft group with Cartmel Surgery runner up. The overall winner was a clever design that used mixed sewing techniques to depict a damson tree through all of the seasons.
Proceeds will be shared between local foodbanks and church funds.
