A DRIVER who lost control of her car, demolishing a garden wall in Cross Hills, had earlier drunk a bottle of wine, heard Skipton Magistrates Court.

Laura Hodgson, 40, was on her way to collecting her family at the end of the day on August 12 when she drove her Vauxhall Mokka into a garden wall in Park Road, overturning the vehicle and demolishing the wall, the court heard on Friday.

Hodgson, who was unhurt, provided a positive roadside test and was taken to the police station where a blood test revealed she had 193 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, the legal limit is 80.

Hodgson, who admitted drink driving and was of previous good character, had a demanding job and had at the time been in the middle of moving house, the court was told.

In mitigation, John Mewies said his client had drunk a bottle of wine throughout the day before remembering she had volunteered to collect her partner and two children from Cross Hills.

Hodgson, of Burnside Avenue, Skipton, was banned from driving for 18 months, and fined £345. She was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £34. If she completes a drink drivers rehabilitation course, her ban will be reduced by 18 weeks.
