PUPILS at Glusburn Primary School have been crowned North Yorkshire boys' football champions.
The school's team came top out of 350 schools taking part in the tournament run by the North Yorkshire Schools Football Association.
In the finals at York College the boys competed against winning schools from all areas of the county including Richmondshire, Harrogate, Hambleton, Selby, York, Whitby, Scarborough and Ryedale.
After winning the group stage, the Glusburn team beat St Oswalds of York 2-0 in the semi-finals, then beat Knavesmire Primary School of York 2-0 in the final match.
Glusburn boys will now compete in a further stage representing North Yorkshire.
The team were prepared for the tournament by school coach Adam Smith, and PE Coordinator Becky Gill managed the team at the event.
Glusburn School head Richard Hunt said: "I am extremely proud of the boys for this fantastic achievement and for the staff who have helped lead the team to victory from a pool of over 350 schools!
"We want children at Glusburn Primary School to develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities and most importantly, lead healthy, active lives.
"We feel that being active is also beneficial to children’s mental health and well-being: with the PE curriculum as important as the core subjects of English and maths."
