STORM Ciara put paid to the planned dress rehearsal of Gargrave Pantomime group’s Dick Whittington, but members promise to have audiences rocking in the aisles this weekend.

Directed by Anita Eccles and starring Laura Lipscombe as Dick, the panto tells the familiar story of Dick Whittington’s exploits in London, via an unfamiliar excursion to a Morecambe nightclub overrun with rats, headed by the evil King Rat.

The significance of Dick’s cat’s name becomes clear once one realises that – apparently – the entire crew of the pantomime have the name Steve. Will Dick ever make it back to London to be reunited with his love, Alice, despite the comic incompetence of the ship’s crew? With all the classic ingredients of dancing children, slapstick comedy and perhaps even a hint of political satire, this show has something for everyone.

Performances at Gargrave Village Hall are on Thursday, February 20 and Friday, February 21 at 7.15pm and on Saturday, February 22 at 1pm and at 5pm. Tickets from Dalesman Cafe and the library at £8, or on the door for £9 or £6 concessions.
