YOUNGSTERS at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Barnoldswick are being encouraged to read for pleasure by reading all about dragons and the classic favourite, Stig of the Dump, and making models of characters, using recycled materials
One of the classes has been reading The Dragon Machine by Helen Ward, and after re-telling the story in actions and words, they used their creative and recycling skills to make their own colourful models pf dragons.
Meanwhile, another class at the school in West Close Road has been reading Stig of the Dump, written by Clive Owen, and first published almost 60 years ago, in 1963.
After enjoying the book, the children then used the plot of the story to create their own characters, plots and settings.
Some of the class were so inspired that they also brought the story to life, by getting creative with the recycling and designing their own characters and even their own ‘dumps’ like in the story.
