STUDENTS at a Keighley school have been getting a taste for how to cook Italian food.

Holy Family pupils were visited by staff from Keighley restaurant Ponte Vecchio, who demonstrated the preparation and cooking of some typical dishes.

The initiative was designed to show students how skills learned in food technology could be transferred into the catering sector.

“The students witnessed first-hand the requirements for providing delicious food in a commercial setting,” said a Holy Family spokesman. “This really was bringing the great taste of Tuscan cuisine to the heart of a Yorkshire school!”

Korado Memushaj, from Ponte Vecchio, said he was impressed with the pupils and delighted with the welcome. He supplied the school with a set of aprons, which the students are now wearing for practical work in the food classroom.

Food technology staff Gerard Cahill and Mrs Amanda Halliwell said the students had enjoyed the day and “learned some really useful skills”, and the school was looking to develop more mutually-beneficial relationships with other businesses in the community.
