BUDDING young engineers from South Craven School at Cross Hills have shone in a robotics challenge.

‘Team Brickaneers’ was crowned regional winner of the Tomorrow’s Engineers EEP contest.

Team members Jack Hodge, Adam Edwards, Sasha Davies, Rory Pengelly, Jonathan Bownass, Will Barnes and Samuel Leray-Field had to complete a range of tasks in the regional heat, at Blackpool and Fylde College.

As part of their entry, the youngsters devised an automated recycling centre manned by robots – even creating a digital model of the proposed site. The team achieved the highest score of any school in a challenge mat element of the contest, organised by Engineering UK.

South Craven teacher, James Trunks, said the students had worked hard on the project and deserved the recognition. “They are a pleasure to work with and true assets to the school,” he added.

The team was due to take part in the national finals on Friday (March 13), but the event has been cancelled owing to the coronavirus situation.
