APRIL 7 1975 was an evening that would be talked about in Thackley for generations - the night Spanish football champions Barcelona dropped in for a training stint at Ainsbury Avenue.
Members of the all-amateur Yorkshire League club gulped down their Monday night pints in the clubhouse and thought their eyes were playing tricks as the world's best-known footballer, Johan Cruyff, led his team-mates on to the bumpy Thackley pitch for a 20-minute workout.
Arriving to the ground in a fleet of taxis the superstars carrying Spain's European Cup hopes had to make do with old, mis-shaped footballs because Thackley had kept their new equipment elsewhere.
