A CONONLEY man has asked for people to back proposals for a national ‘NHS Heroes Day’.

Robert Minton-Taylor says the NHS has been the backbone of saving lives and restoring people to full health during the coronavirus pandemic and that it would be a fitting tribute to honour the service with a day of remembrance once it is over.

“NHS staff are on the frontline in the battle to save lives from Covid-19 much as fighter pilots did saving the nation’s lives during the Battle of Britain in World War II,” he said.

There is not a single person in the UK who has not benefitted sometime in their lives from the help and support of the NHS, whether it be as a visit to a GP, as an outpatient in a hospital or as an inpatient on a hospital ward, he added.

“We owe the NHS a deep sense of gratitude for the unselfish work they have performed during this national emergency. The proposal would be to honour the NHS heroes of Covid-19 on a specific day each year. That day being when life returns to normal in the UK and the lockdown is finally lifted.”

He has asked people to propose the national day to the Government to ‘celebrate and never forget’ the sacrifices made by NHS workers to save the nation from its most darkest threat to date in the 21st century.
