MINE hosts at a village pub have reached a landmark in their ongoing tribute to Airedale Hospital staff during the coronavirus crisis.

The Dog & Gun at Malsis is donating 200 restaurant meals a week to NHS nightshift workers at the Steeton site.

And the Colne Road pub has now passed through the 1,000 meals mark since the venture began.

A range of dishes, including vegan and vegetarian options, is prepared and taken to the hospital each week.

"We swap around the days that we deliver so different staff get to enjoy the meals," said Anita Walker, who runs the pub with husband Ross.

"During this awful time that we are all going through, we wanted to give something back to our brilliant NHS heroes who are doing such a fantastic job.

"The meals are going down really well – we've had all sorts of lovely feedback."

Chefs are Ross and the couple's son Aaron, while Anita and daughter Amy carry out the deliveries – observing the social distancing rules.

The Dog & Gun – like all pubs – is currently closed to customers, but in addition to supporting hospital workers it is also providing hot takeaway meals and ready meals to the public, collection and delivery, which is proving popular.
