I NOTE Keith Wright's letter in the Craven Herald of May 28. I must point out that I do struggle with stiles, but normally negotiate the climb by leaning into the stile and use my forearms against the structure for stability.
I come down the stile at the other side with the same mechanism. Should I have the need to grab the wooden structure, I do so, but I do sanitise my hands at the bottom…not worth risking a limb .
He is quite right in pointing out that I'd have to follow each walker home to see if they sanitised later, but unfortunately that may be a bit late in the game. It has been shown that we tend to touch our noses, eyes and mouth about 10 times per hour, so there will have been all those opportunities to infect our hands or gloves, and then transfer the virus to our mucus membranes. The message needs to be, if you are out and about and have no access to soap and water, then carry sanitiser and use it when you may have been compromised….don't wait till you get home.
