I AM not yet a regular reader of your newspaper as I came to live in Skipton just before the lockdown but, by chance, I picked up a copy on Tuesday.
I was delighted to see that the Wharfedale Naturalists Society wanted help in choosing a flower emblem for that dale.
I was rather surprised to see that the Birds-eye Primrose was one of the ten choices, as this is already the established emblem of the 'Friends of the Dales' (formerly The Yorkshire Dales Society) of which I am a life member.
It is a delightful flower and not often found where sheep graze, so not that abundant in a dale where sheep probably outnumber
residents.
With such a lovely selection to choose from I do hope another flower is used as any society deserves its own unique, easily recognisable symbol.
We have until June 18 to vote.
Sheila Simms,
Skipton.
