LOCAL authorities across the South West receive 53 noise complaints every day on average, new research has revealed.

The South West was the UK region with the fifth lowest number of noise complaints over the past three years, receiving just five per cent of all UK noise complaints, according to the research from Churchill Home Insurance.

London saw the highest number of complaints, with a third (33 per cent) of all UK noise complaints, while Scotland (13 per cent) the South East (nine per cent), the North West (eight per cent) and Yorkshire and the Humberside (seven per cent) completed the top five.

The most common type of complaint received by local authorities in the South West over the past three years has been a result of noise caused by music and parties.

In fact, music and party noise accounts for over a fifth (22 per cent) of all complaints, some 13,800 out of a total 63,000. Since the beginning of 2017, an average of 13 complaints about loud music or parties have been made across the region every single day.

Completing the top five causes for noise complaints are; animal noise which accounts for 19 per cent, or 11,700 complaints over the past three years, general domestic noises like shouting, footsteps or DIY, (nine per cent or 5,400), noise from commercial premises (seven per cent, or 4,600) and pubs and clubs (six per cent, or 3,600).
