PANIC was beginning to rise in our neighbouring town of Keighley earlier today when government Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced there had been a spike in Covid-19 in the town.

Speaking to BBC News, Matt Hancock claimed there was a spike in infections in Keighley, sending shockwaves out of a potential localised lockdown

However, the health secretary had "confused" Keighley with another area in West Yorkshire, Bradford Council has said.

It's thought Mr Hancock was instead referring to an outbreak at a meat factory in Cleckheaton, Kirklees, earlier this month.

Bradford Council posted on Twitter: "Just to calm everyone down a bit…

"There's no new COVID-19 spike in Keighley. @MattHancock confused Keighley with a different area on TV and radio this morning.

"Please keep maintaining social distance & washing hands so we don’t need to announce a local outbreak in the future."
