THERE might not be lions and tigers, but the owners of Thornton Hall Country Park are confident their farm safari ‘drive thru’ will give families a very welcome day out.

The award winning visitor attraction in Thornton-in-Craven still cannot open its indoor areas because of coronavirus, so owners, Chris and Emma Harrison came up with what they believe is the country’s first farm safari.

“It will be great to see people coming into the farm again and for our staff to do what they do best. We have missed everyone so much and we are eager to get going again. We are confident that this venture will provide a safe environment for families to enjoy the great outdoors again, it will do wonders for the mental health of our visitors and will give people something to look forward to,” said Emma.

Safaris take about 35 minutes with visitors driving around the 160 acre farm, enjoying the llamas, alpacas, emus, horses, ponies, goats, sheep, cattle, red deer and ducks. Staff are on hand to talk about the animals, and there are signs giving information and the history of the farm park.

The cafe has been turned temporarily into a takeaway, and visitors can buy drinks and snacks and animal and farm themed goods for their trip. Safari birthday parties can also be arranged.

The first ‘drive-thrus’ are due to take place on Saturday, will take place throughout the day, from Wednesday to Sunday.
