A SECTION of an ‘extremely busy’ Malham Cove had to be cleared after a visitor became ill at the top of the steep steps to the cove yesterday (Thursday) afternoon.

Members of the Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO), local Yorkshire Ambulance Service paramedics and other YAS paramedics went to aid of the man after receiving a call at 2.40pm.

A spokesperson for the Clapham based CRO said: "As team members and local YAS paramedics arrived, other YAS paramedics were helping him into their air ambulance, for the flight to hospital. The Cove top was extremely busy with visitors so, before standing down, team members cleared an area around the aircraft for its safe departure to hospital."
