IT has been a successful weekend of fundraising for some of our local sports stars.

A large chunk of the Keighley RUFC squad completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on Yorkshire Day on Saturday, as a way of raising money for Manorlands and refurbishing their changing rooms.

They started fundraising several weeks ago and had set a target of £2,000. The completion of the walk has given that total a real boost, with numerous donations over the last few days seeing the money raised swell to just under £2,500 at the time of writing.

Keighley have said any money raised beyond their target will go specifically to Manorlands Hospice Oxenhope.

Meanwhile, Liversedge's hotshot striker Joe Walton, alongside Emley's James Eyles, has raised over £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support after finishing a 70-mile coast-to-coast walk.

The intrepid duo have raised over four times the amount they expected, after initially setting a target of £500 for their walk, which began in Carlisle on Friday evening and finished in Tynemouth 27 hours later.

Writing on their GoFundMe fundraising page before the walk, Eyles said: "It’s got to that time of the year to do something absolutely stupid again in the name of charity!"

Explaining why he and Walton wanted to help Macmillan, Eyles added: "It is something that is close to everyone’s hearts and that’s no different to our own families.

"Joe's mum Kath tragically passed away from cancer nine years ago and my auntie Diane is currently undergoing treatment in America."

At the time of writing, £2,400 has been raised with donations still coming in. For more information on how you can donate, click on the link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/james-and-joes-fundraiser-for-macmillan-cancer
