WILDFLOWER seeds were sown in a Dales churchyard as the Bishop of Ripon blessed a project that celebrates local history, biodiversity and spiritual wellbeing.
The Right Rev Helen-Ann Hartley was at St Mary’s Church, Kettlewell, to lead a Holy Communion service and a blessing of the local Churchyard Project.
The project has been several years in the making and includes interpretation boards based on the history of the churchyard, ‘Words in Wood’ bearing inspirational quotations at strategic points, and a labyrinth next to an area of hay meadow.
The initiative includes a major emphasis on biodiversity, and to reflect this the event ended with children Kitty Ward-Dooley, 11, and Teddy Cook, 14, helping the bishop and members of the congregation to sow and trample in wildflower seeds near to the labyrinth.
