YOU’VE probably seen make-up tutorials on social media, but none quite like this one.

Here is your chance to take part in a free Halloween-themed online workshop to create your own spooky spectacle.

Skipton High Street Heritage Action Zone has teamed up with Theatrical and Media Make-up students from Craven College and creatives at Fresh Perspective to bring Skipton’s scariest spooks to life in a free session on Saturday, October 31.

Two degree students from Craven College will teach a range of theatrical make-up tips and tricks as they take attendees through the process of transforming themselves into zombies and ghouls.

This event is part of a creative workshop initiative, hosted by Fresh Perspective, called ‘Joy in Numbers’, which is dedicated to bringing joy to communities through creative engagement, both on and offline. Fresh Perspective launched the initiative in lockdown.

The workshops are being run in partnership with Skipton High Street Heritage Action Zone Cultural Programme, which is aimed at building greater links across the youth community, local businesses and local cultural groups.

Debbie Cross, programme manager for Skipton’s Heritage Action Zone, said: “While Skipton’s woods, waterways, streets, buildings, ginnels and yards are rich in local history, they are also rumoured to be home to some of Skipton’s more unearthly residents, from phantom dogs to boggarts, and this will be a fun way of recreating those stories.”

Sian Laüra, of Fresh Perspective said “I’m so excited to be working with Craven College to host this event. It’s great to find creative ways to bring people together.”

The High Streets Heritage Action Zones (HAZ) Programme is a nationwide scheme designed to secure lasting improvements to historic high streets for the communities who use them. It is Government funded and run by Historic England. Skipton is one of 68 towns to have been awarded this grant.

The Cultural Programme is being run alongside the Heritage Action Zone project. Co-funded with The National Lottery Heritage Fund and supported by Arts Council England, its goal is to make the high street and town a more attractive, engaging and vibrant place for people to live, work and spend time.
