AN OTLEY landowner has given Wheatfields Hospice a £1,000 funding boost.

Builder Richard Houldsworth has been allowing the former Bridge End cattle market site, off Billams Hill, to be used as a parking space for several local events.

Award-winning production company Rollem used the plot most recently while it was in town filming for the fourth series of Kay Mellor’s The Syndicate, for BBC One.

Mr Houldsworth decided to use the money he has received for the use of his land to a good cause - and chose Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice, in Headingley.

His daugther, Amy, handed over the donation on the site recently to Lisa Grimes, who is a fundraiser for the hospice.

Mr Houldsworth bought the former cattle market site back in 2013 with a view to creating a community centre and parking area - but fears the Otley Flood Alleviation Scheme could hamper those plans.
