A RETIRED nurse from Otley has written a special poem for this year’s Remembrance Day.
Barbara Corney has written a number of poems over the years to honour the war dead but was especially keen to do so this year when the COVID-19 pandemic has caused many Remembrance events to be cancelled.
Her new piece of verse, Lest We Forget..., includes a reference to men from Otley itself and says:
“They faced the enemy, their resolve was clear;
“They fought like lions - not from fear
“But out of love for those held dear.”
Barbara said: “I was thinking about this particular year where everything we care for has been put at risk by this dreadful pandemic.
“We Yorkshire people do not wish our heroes’ finest hours to go unmarked and I feel that whatever can be done to keep them in our hearts and minds at this time should be.”
