TRAFFIC on the A59 heading towards Skipton just outside West Marton has been brought to a halt because of heavy snow.
Several wagons heading from the Gisburn direction are currently at a standstill.
Police have asked people to travel only if essential.
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow in the district with the risk of heavy snow until lunchtime followed by light snow.
Ice is expected overnight into Friday as temperatures drop to around minus 2.
