THE possession of certain knives and weapons such as flick knives and knuckle dusters will soon be against the law - even if they are in your own home.

North Yorkshire Police says the change has been brought about by the Government’s Offensive Weapons Act designed to increase public safety by reducing knife crime.

Possession and ownership of such weapons - which also include zombie knives, curved swords, and batons - is prohibited under any circumstances under the new legislation.

A ‘surrender scheme’, currently underway by the Government until March 9, allows owners to claim compensation, if the total value of the claim is more than £30.

Claims must be submitted to the police with a completed form.

Knives and weapons can be surrendered at Skipton Police Station in person during coronavirus restrictions, provided an appointment is made beforehand.

A police spokesperson said: “Please ensure you follow all Covid-safe measure including wearing a face covering when attending.”
