A DRIVER with two different types of drugs in his system has been banned from driving for 18 months and fined £300 by Skipton magistrates.

Cory Brewin, 30, of Kendal Close, Hellifield, was stopped by police at just after 3am on July 28 last year because one of the brake lights on his car was not working, the court heard on Friday, last week.

Police, after stopping Brewin in Skipton, also noticed that the front, off-side tyre of his Volkswagen Polo was ‘devoid of all tread’, the court was told.

Brewin provided a positive road-side drugs wipe test and was taken to the police station for a blood test which after analysis showed he had seven microgrammes of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol - the by-product of cannabis - in one lire of blood, the specified limit is two, and 37microgrammes of MDMA (ecstasy) in one litre of blood, the specified limit is 10.

Brewin, who admitted two counts of drugs driving and one of using a vehicle with insufficient tread, told the court he had taken the drugs two days earlier and had thought he was safe to drive.

He added he no longer had the car, and did not consider himself to have a problem with drugs and was only a recreational user, the same as a ‘lot of people’ in ‘this day and age’.

Magistrates banned Brewin, who said he was on furlough from work, for 18 months and fined him £300 with costs of £85and a surcharge of £34.
