READER Francis O’Brien of Skipton has shared this wonderfully nostalgic picture of him and three friends posing on a beach in the middle of the ‘swinging sixties’.
Francis, in the picture, first on the left, says he and his friends were on an educational summer break to the Norfolk Broads; and were here enjoying a visit to the seaside town of Great Yarmouth.
Great Yarmouth, he points out was the centre of the 60’s ‘Mod Culture’ - and the place to be for all fashionable youngsters.
Typical teenagers, the youths appeared to be likening themselves to the ‘Small Faces’ who at the time had become the nation’s leading Mod group following their debut 1965 hit record, ‘Whatcha Gonna Do About It’.
Pictured from left are: Francis ‘Franny’ O’Brien, David ‘Dave’ Whittaker; and brothers John ‘JD’ Smith and Brian ‘Chum’ Smith.
