FELL rescue volunteers were called out to help a fell runner who had got into difficulties in Skipton Woods.

The runner had begun fitting while in the woods on Sunday but with the help of the ambulance service, recovered and walked out unaided.

A spokesperson for the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association said: "The team was called out by the Yorkshire ambulance service to reports of a fallen fell runner who had begun fitting in Skipton Woods.

"On arrival at the scene the casualty was already in the safe hands of the ambulance crew and had recovered sufficiently to begin walking out without our assistance. The team continued in with the stretcher in case the situation deteriorated and were stood down as soon as the casualty was in the ambulance."
