THE fundraising efforts of children from Settle Primary School have helped children in rural India.
A non-uniform day and painting stones at the school early last year raised about £137 which went in aid of a book drive for the Anantapur Sports Academy and Rural Development Trust in Anantapur.
The money has now made its way over to Anantapur and has been used to buy books for sports centres in Atmakur and Bathalapali. The centres are attended by more than 400 children before and after school where they get the opportunity to play organised sport, receive computing lessons, receive nutrition to help combat deficiencies in diet and now read story books to further their education in English, Hindi and their local language, Telugu.
The centres have been created and are organised by Anantapur Sports Academy (ASA) and Rural Development Trust (RDT).
ASA is a sport for development project which aims to achieve sustainable social change through sport throughout the rural areas of Anantapur.
