We’ve published a few stories about the open-air Moorview Baths, in Shortbank Road, so thought it would be good to highlight the building of their replacement at Aireville Park some 57 years ago.
This picture shows the construction of the new indoor heated baths which would open in the summer of 1964.
Known by most simply at Skipton Swimming Baths, the pool was responsible for teaching many Dales children - and those further afield - to swim confidently and safely.
They also had the luxury of warm water, rather than the chilly spring water fed from Rankin’s Well.
Children from the town’s schools took part in the opening ceremony when the facility was finally opened.
