ADVENTURER Alastair Humphreys took to the treetops to help launch an appeal to plant new native woodlands in the Yorkshire Dales and surrounding areas.

Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT) has linked up with the Big Give to boost support for its Together for Trees campaign, which will be launched on Thursday - Earth Day.

For one week only people will have the chance to double their donation via the Big Give website.

Alastair, who has been an ambassador for YDMT for two years, and is originally from the Malham area, said: “If you want to do something to help reverse the loss of biodiversity in your local area, as well as helping to tackle the global environmental crisis – supporting new woodlands in the Dales is one of the best things you can do.

“And there’s no better time to donate than now – when your donation can have twice the impact!”

Donations to the Together for Trees campaign will help bring people together to create new woodlands, increasing native woodland cover and connecting wildlife habitats.

Woodland cover in the Yorkshire Dales is only 2.7 per cent - the lowest of all the national parks.

From April 22 to April 29, donations made through the Big Give website will be doubled, meaning YDMT can plant two trees instead of one. To donate visit bit.ly/donate-trees

Alastair Humphreys was one of National Geographic’s Adventurers of the year in 2012.

He is now behind the microadventure movement, which encourages people to undertake small adventures such as spending a night in the woods or enjoying a dip in a local river.
