TWO poachers have been dealt with by Skipton magistrates for taking rabbits without permission from Swinden Quarry, near Cracoe.
Bradley Doherty, 23, from Padiham, pleaded guilty by letter to being found in possession of game which he had obtained by unlawfully going on land in search, or pursuit, of game; while the case against Jordan Pritchard, 27, also of Padiham, was found proved in his absence.
The court heard on Friday that the two men were walking on Lauradale Lane to Fell Lane, Cracoe, on February 7, with a rucksack carrying rabbits and a spade. Both men admitted to what they had done at the time.
Doherty, of Whitegate Close, Padiham, received credit for his guilty plea and was fined £146 with costs of £85 and a surcharge of £34. The case against Pritchard, of Stockbridge Road, was proved in absence. He was fined £220, with costs of £85 and a surcharge of £34.
Magistrates made a forfeiture and destruction order on any paraphernalia used by the men in order to carry out the offence.
