SETTLE 1st Castleberg Scouts are displaying a new lantern courtesy of Settle Hack Space, an informal community group where people with common interests in technology and computers can meet, socialise, and collaborate on projects. The new lamp for the Drill Hall is their its project.
When Covid restrictions allow the group will resume meetings in the upper room of the parish church.
The shaped top has been 3-D printed in plastic rather than fabricated from metal as the original would have been. The gas mantles have been reproduced using LED car bulbs mounted upon copper pipe from the local plumber’s merchant.
If you come along Castlebergh Lane after dusk you’ll see a flickering warm glow from the LEDs that is just like gas flames.
