SKIPTON schoolchildren are learning valuable lessons with the help of the school caretaker and his tractor.

The outdoor education programme at Greatwood Community Primary School and Nursery aims to give the children a lifelong love of the outdoors and teach them how to care for the planet and live more sustainable lives, says the school.

Its outdoor education leaders, Ian Magee and John French have included drystone walling, navigating Pendle Hill, fishing, reservoir walks and den building. The children have also taken part in the planting of trees, orienteering and learning how to identify different trees and birds.

The learning has also meant school caretaker, Chris McKimm, bringing in his tractor and his electric car to help with a transport project.

Headteacher, Jonelle Yeoman, said: “All of these experiences enable us to deliver a first class curriculum and experiences that will be remembered for a lifetime by our children and their families.”
