A POPULAR event is returning after a four-year break.

Silsden Proms on the Farm is set to take place again this summer – with a new organising team and different venue.

Now at the helm are representatives of the Silsden and Steeton Sue Ryder Manorlands Support Group and Silsden Methodist Church.

Heading-up the team is chairman William Jowitt.

He says he’s delighted to see the return of the event, which is scheduled for July 17, on Jackson’s Field.

“We had hoped to bring the Proms evening back last year but the Covid pandemic meant that was not possible,” he said.

“This year it will therefore be even more special, as one of the first public events to be held in the area. However, we are of course dependant on the lockdown easing as currently indicated.

“We hope our previous supporters will see that we’ve kept the special feel and format very similar.

“For those who haven’t been before, we encourage you to come along and enjoy an evening of music – from Tewit Silver Band, Swing City Big Band and the 1960 Four Band.

“There will also be the traditional orchestral Last Night of the Proms set, with soloist Sarah Halstead and April Grime, so don’t forget your flags!”

People can book a space to erect a gazebo, or bring a chair and sit in the arena.

There will be a prize for the best-dressed gazebo.

Members of the audience can take along their own food and drink.

The field gates will open at 2pm.

And entertainment will run on three stages from 6.30pm to11pm.

There will be an auction, raffle and bottle tombola stall.

The organising team is also looking to minimise costs by working with corporate sponsors.

All proceeds from the event will be split equally between Oxenhope hospice Manorlands and Silsden Methodist Church, to support its work with the community.

Manorlands, like many charities, has been badly hit financially by the impact of the pandemic.
