A GROUP of Skipton businesswomen are coordinating what is believed to be the town’s first ever ‘wellness week’ devoted to health and wellbeing.

A number of healthy activities - including joining a yoga or pilates class, a skin consultation, taking part in a bootcamp, or lessons in nutrition - are being offered from Monday, June 7 and concluding with Global Wellness Day on June 12.

Hosting the event in partnership with Skipton BID is Skipton Business Social, a group of women entrepreneurs, made up of Ebru Evrim, owner of Ebru Evrim yoga and pilates studio; Rebecca Elsworth of Elsworth Kitchen; Sarah Collett of SBC Marketing, and Ciara White of Hellbent Events.

Ciara said: “We’ve worked together for the last couple of years to bring people together in a meaningful way. Before the pandemic we created a series of networking events at Elsworth kitchen, where professionals connected and shared valuable experiences. Unfortunately these had to stop last March when social distancing was introduced.

“This year we’re delighted to partner with Skipton BID to create a wellbeing event in honour of Global Wellness Day. As we come out of the pandemic, many of us want to focus on making a positive change - this will create the space to do that.”

There will be a mixture of online and face to face sessions due to make sure everything is Covid-safe.

Activities have been designed so there is something for everyone, if they want to make a positive change in their lives, says the group. People can try yoga or pilates, try walking or hypnotherapy, book in for a skin consultation, or try something nutritional at a restaurant.

People can also enjoy a Little Miss Yorkshire ‘walk of the day’ to Embsay Reservoir, enjoy a yoga taster session, or have a free bootcamp session with Peak Wellbeing, as well as much more.

Sarah Collett, of SBC Marketing, said: “We have been speaking to lots of businesses and groups who are keen to get involved. Every day I am adding activities to our website.

“We are excited to bring a diverse and accessible event to the town, just as we’re starting to come out of the pandemic. I think we are all ready to embrace something new and improve our wellbeing for the new chapter ahead.”

Global Wellness Day is about getting people to develop healthy lifestyles. This year will be its tenth anniversary.
