VETERAN broadcaster Harry Gration has become a UK brand ambassador for Steeton-based Acorn Stairlifts.

And the retired BBC Look North presenter has been given a socially-distanced tour of the factory and head offices at the Millennium Business Park.

Harry is fronting a new series of TV and print adverts for the company.

He said: "Over the years I’ve reported on countless success stories from my home county of Yorkshire and Acorn’s story is right up there with them. I’m delighted to be supporting the team for the next step on its incredible journey."

Acorn Stairlifts' products are now sold throughout Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Manufacturing takes place in Steeton, Shipley and Haddington, near Edinburgh.

Acorn’s UK and Europe operations director, Nick Wilson, who accompanied Harry on his tour, said he was delighted at Harry's ambassador appointment.

"He is the perfect choice to let more people know about the life-enhancing benefits of our stairlifts," said Nick.

"We’ve worked throughout the pandemic to look after our customers and now, as we emerge from it, a new campaign fronted by Harry is just the shot in the arm we all needed."
