THE fourth and final heat for Gateways’ virtual Battle of the Bands competition kicks off this Monday, June 14, with a chance for potentially local bands to play to a live audience in Skipton’s Aireville Park this summer.

Gateways Festival is staging an outdoor cinema and live music event which is due to be held on August 6, 7 and 8.

Well known bands such as Razorlight, Scouting For Girls, Feeder, Buzzcocks and Lightning Seeds will be gathering over the weekend and are all the ‘real deal’ explained Georgia Hirst, one of the festival’s managers.

The line-up also includes accompanying artists such as Top Loader, Dodgy, Artful Dodger, Andrew Cushin, Emily Capell, King No One and Bull.

The family-friendly will include a fun fair, stalls,festival-style food, live music and an outdoor movie night which will take place on the Friday.

There is also a chance for lesser well-known and local bands to appear on the two stages and a competition is currently taking place on the Gateways Festival Facebook page.

The fourth heat started on Monday where people have a week to cast their vote after listening to examples of the bands’ work.

The winners of each round will be announced on Monday June 21 and will then be in competition with four wild cards chosen by the Gateways team.

The final eight will subsequently be whittled down to four lucky winners via careful selection from the Gateways judges.

Directors of the festival said: “We feel it’s extremely important to give local and unsigned bands and artists the opportunity to showcase their talent and hopefully give them the platform they deserve, and what better way to do that by offering the chance to play on the same stage as some incredible bands?”

Explaining the reasoning for the virtual competition, they added: “We had planned to do a live Battle of the Bands competition but due to Covid-19, we’ve had to make alternative arrangements, making the competition accessible nationwide.

“Due to it now being a virtual competition, we wanted to make it as simple as possible for all of our followers to vote.”
