This old photo is of the former Spindle Mill which was off Coach Street, Skipton.

Although the old mill and its dam are long gone, the building on the left is still standing and is at the corner of Coach Street and Bridge Street.

Behind that is the roof of the former fire station at the bottom of Lower Commercial Street, itself no longer there.

The mill itself was an interesting looking building with a hotch-potch of windows and steps to the towpath from Coach Street.

What isn’t immediately noticeable, however, is sight of the two men standing on the roof.

It is not obvious what they were doing - perhaps repairing the roof or the chimney?
